Worthy Is the Lamb

Published by Stan Obenhaus on

Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. In a loud voice they were saying:

“Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain,
to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength
and honor and glory and praise!” (Revelation 5:11-12 ESV)

I wrote the following lyrics inspired by Revelation 5:11-12 (above). It’s not great poetry. But with the right melody, it could be a pretty good song. Who do you know who could put some music to it?

A carpenter laboring for daily bread,
and having no pillow to lay down his head.
Of wealth he is worthy.

No sword in his belt and no spear in his hand,
yet rulers and nations fall at his command,
Of might he is worthy.

The teachers and lawyers who tried to confound,
his questions confused and his answers astound.
Of wisdom he is worthy.

He could have called angels to come to his aid,
surrendered to Pilate, our debt to be paid.
Of power he is worthy.

They flogged him and mocked him and showered with scorn,
then hailed him as king with a crown made of thorns.
Of honor he is worthy.

Cursed was the Lamb as he hung on the tree.
He bore the curse upon you, upon me.
Of blessing he is worthy.

In shame did he hang between heaven and earth
but one single soldier confessing his worth.
Of glory he is worthy.

Then looking I heard a great heavenly throng,
loud voices together they broke out in song,
He's worthy. He is worthy.

[Chorus]
And thousands of thousands were singing aloud,
“Worthy is the Lamb. Worthy is the Lamb.”
And thousands of thousands were singing aloud,
“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain.”
